Mrs. Oregon International®

Sandra Herder

1.Tell us why anyone would want come to your hometown?
I’m driven to make a difference. Teaching for 19 years, I’m passionate about helping children through the SMART program. Married for 20 years, we’re educators, active volunteers, and parents of two teenage boys. The International system honors these commitments, and there are unlimited opportunities to share, connect, and empower others.

2.What are the (2) most important things in your closet and why?
I had a life changing accident with over 100 stitches to my face—an experience that reinforced how truly blessed I am. I spent summers jumping off Waimea Bay’s rock in my native Hawaii, and I save earthworms that wash up on the concrete during rainy days.

3.What do you love to cook and why?
I stay mentally healthy by appreciating life and looking for the good in all things. I stay physically healthy by working out with my family and chasing Kindergartners. I also spend a lot of time shagging baseballs-- dad pitches, the boys hit, and mom shags. We are a baseball family!

4.If you had an extra hour each day, what would you do?
We raised our family with the golden words, “Respect and Teamwork.” Respect for yourself and your body, Respect for family and friends, and Respect for differences you encounter. Always valuing to work as a team that communicates, is honest, and supports each other in their endeavors.

5.Describe the dirtiest job you have ever had to do?
I spend endless hours creating and tweaking things. It’s rare I buy a dress, blouse, jewelry, or gown without adding or changing fringes, stones, style, or design. I just can’t leave it alone. My friends call it, “The Sandra Flair.” Oh, by the way, they sometimes work, and sometimes DON’T.
